The Cliff House and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area

The National Park Service acquired the Cliff House and surrounding properties as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in 1977. A major renovation of the third incarnation of the Cliff House - the 1909 neoclassical structure - began in 2003 and was completed in 2004, with the addition of a modernistic Sutro Wing which houses Sutro's.

Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy

Established in 1981, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is the nonprofit partner that supports and assists the Golden Gate National Parks in research, interpretation and conservation programs. It is recognized as one of the largest and most effective park partners in the country.

The Cliff House is open 365 days of the year, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Bistro and lunch and dinner at Sutro's. On Fridays the Balcony Lounge offers live jazz from 7:00 - 11:00 p.m.; a festive Sunday champagne brunch buffet is available in the elegant Terrace Room overlooking the Pacific Ocean. An upscale gift shop in the Sutro Wing offers historic memorabilia, unusual gifts, local handmade crafts and coastal travel books, including the new, San Francisco Cliff House, by Mary Hountalas.
